Introducing the Student Center for
Belonging and Community!
What’s a good name for a vibrant campus place dedicated to creating student belonging and community?
How about a name that communicates exactly that — which is why the former Office of Intercultural Education at Bates is now the Student Center for Belonging and Community.

The center is located in Chase Hall and houses many identity-focused programs that support students, foster community, and advance belonging on campus. This renaming honors the integral role of students in the center’s original formation as well as its timeless goal of making campus better for all. Learn more about the renaming in this Bates News article, “From A to Z, Here’s what’s new at Bates in 2024-2025” and scrolling to “B is for Belonging.”
The renaming process included consultation of campus partners and a group of alumni who were involved with the center. We are so grateful for their perspectives! In the future, we hope to gather more alumni stories on the Center for a campus timeline project. If you’d like to stay engaged on such topics, be sure to subscribe to the MOSAIC email list; and if you haven’t already, don’t forget to take the MOSAIC Survey! We’d love to hear your feedback.

We’ll sample items from more than 10 food businesses and connect with fellow alumni and current Bates students. Come be a part of (re)assembling MOSAIC!
