The path to a creative career is rarely a straight line. It is a journey of exploration, identity, and finding a sustainable rhythm. This virtual session of Bates in the Arts focuses on facilitating real knowledge around the professional arts world.
You will:

Panelists
Singha Hon ’14: Freelance Artist and Designer, Visual Artist, Illustrator, and Educator
Singha is an artist, educator, and illustrator from New York City. Through painting, drawing, and sculpture, she creates work inspired by nature, dreams, mythology, and communal history. She studied art at Bates College, earning a BA in both Arts & Visual Culture and Theater.
She was the 2019-2020 Storefront Artist in Residence at The W.O.W. Project in 2019, and continued to work with them as a teaching artist via the Creatives Rebuild New York Artist Employment Program from 2022 to 2024. She is a 2025 Creative Catalyst Fellow through the AAPI Fund. Since 2024, she has been the Public Artist in Residence at the Mayor’s Office of Equity and Racial Justice, in partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs. She has created public art installations and murals across New York, in partnership with organizations such as D.O.T., NYC Parks, The Waterfront Alliance, and O+ Positive. Through her community-centered residencies and public art projects, her process has expanded beyond the studio, from leading interviews, conducting research and collecting oral histories, to hiking up mountains and teaching intergenerational workshops, all these experiences inform what goes into her artwork: a rich collection of memories, dreams, and hope.
Brennen Malone ’17: Artist, Theater Actor, and Educator
Samuel Mironko ’21: Mironko Productions Director and Photographer
Sam is a Boston-based Freelance Photographer and Director whose work spans editorial, sports, concerts, and major events. He began honing his craft in 2017 while working in the Bates College communications office and photographing friends and family. Since then, Sam has built a full-time freelance career collaborating with professional sports teams, musicians, and a wide range of brands.
Rooted in collaboration and authentic storytelling, Sam’s creative approach is shaped by a childhood surrounded by music, sports, fashion, and two anthropologist parents who nurtured his interest in culture and human connection.
