7/2: Learn how to connect with your Summer Registration Consultant to select your Fall 2025 courses!
Wednesday, July 2, 2025
Hello students in the Class of 2029 and new transfer students,
On or near July 1 you should have received an email from your Summer Registration Consultant.
The Summer Registration Consultant is a member of the Bates faculty or staff who is available to work with you to select your courses for Fall 2025. If they have not already done so they will be reaching out to you by email to schedule a meeting – either over Zoom, phone, or email – to help you select your courses.
When registration opens to all new students on Wednesday, July 9 at 9 AM, you will be asked to provide the following information on Garnet Gateway:
- 1 top-choice First-Year Seminar (FYS) course
- 3 top-choice non-FYS courses
- 8 alternative FYS courses
- 12 alternative non-FYS courses
Instructions on how to register on Garnet Gateway are at this instruction page on the Bates Registrar website.
Be sure to review all of the Course Registration and Academic Exploration information at your Summer Resources Lyceum Page before you meet with your Summer Registration Consultant. If you have not yet gone to that page, please do so as soon as possible so you have all necessary information to register for courses correctly. You may access it directly here.
Remember, if you are interested in taking any math or language courses, you should complete the relevant placement tests no later than 5 PM eastern today July 2, 2025. Information on placement tests is at your Summer Resources Lyceum Page under the “Registering for Fall 2025 Courses” section. You can also access that information here.
To get to your Summer Resources Lyceum Page, go to www.bates.edu/quad and click on the button labeled “Lyceum.” Then, log in. And, you should see a page that you can click on called Class of 2029 Summer Resources in either your courses section or in your “dashboard” section. All information on course selection is at the Course Registration and Academic Planning section that opened to you on June 17.
Please make your course selections on Garnet Gateway between 9 AM Eastern on July 9 and 4 PM Eastern on July 23. Course selection is NOT first-come/first-served. So, you can make your selections at any time between those dates and times.
Transfer students should not select first-year seminars; they should instead indicate 4 top-choice courses and 12 alternatives.
NOTE 1: If a course has more than one section (e.g., CHEM 107 offers 5 sections), you need only note the course (CHEM 107) once, and the Registrar will place you in whichever section does not time-conflict with the other courses that you’ve selected for your Fall 2024 schedule.
NOTE 2: Pay attention to your Mode of Inquiry requirements (which are discussed in the Summer Resources but about which you can also access information here) when selecting courses. It is recommended that students complete 1 to 2 MOIs in their first semester and that all MOIs be completed by the end of the sophomore year.
Thanks for taking the time to read this email and for reviewing your “Registering for Fall 2025 Courses: Exploring the Liberal Arts and Academic Opportunities” materials on your Summer Resources Lyceum page as you prepare for Fall 2025 course registration.
We look forward to working with you throughout the summer and to meeting you in person in late August.
