Join us for our first Alumni Council Professional Development Zoom Call of the year, featuring Bates alumni Chuck James ’78 and Alex Hahn ’97. This is a crucial conversation for anyone looking to understand, navigate, or lead within the rapidly evolving landscape of AI.

Chuck James ’78, Moderator
Charles (Chuck) James ’78 consults with businesses regarding business strategy, product development, marketing, sustainability, and how executives make decisions. He has more than 40 years of sales & marketing management, sales enablement, and leadership experience. Chuck most recently co-instructed a business methods course at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, as an Adjunct Professor.
Chuck was an award-winning sales and marketing leader at firms such as IBM, Hewlett Packard and Xerox, plus their subsidiaries and spinoffs. He is a certified instructor. He also worked for the cloud software company, ServiceNow, and internet start-up Cyveillance.
While at Xerox, Chuck worked on the development of Xerox’ offering for School to Work and Welfare to Work. On Capital Hill, he presented United States Congressional Testimony about Xerox’ Veterans programs.
Chuck holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (Economics) from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and has done additional study in computing technologies at the State University of New York. His undergraduate thesis discussed business development in Harlem. He currently mentors undergraduates and alumni of Bates. Chuck is currently serving on the Bates College Alumni Council, which provides alumni input to the college. Mr. James is the president of his college class and treasurer of the Benjamin Mays Black Alumni Society. He is a member of the College Key.
Currently, Chuck volunteers with the City of Coral Springs, Florida, police and fire departments. He has been honored by the City of Coral Springs for his contributions.

Joselle is the founder of On Point Capital.
Dr. Carrie Diaz Eaton
Professor and Chair of Digital and Computational Studies, Bates College. Dr. Carrie Diaz Eaton uses a mixed methods approach to research in complex adaptive and co-evolving systems. Their primary research area is in inclusive and interdisciplinary undergraduate STEM education. Diaz Eaton uses a mix of modeling, computational text analysis, data analysis, surveys, ethnography, digital narratives, online communication, and community-based approaches to explore ask how systems are changing and to leverage these insights into change through advocacy.
Kyle Flaherty ’97
Kyle Flaherty is a cybersecurity CMO with experience scaling organizations from startup to IPO. His focus is to understand the practical realities of building brands and capturing demand in a cybersecurity market that has a complex buyer’s journey. Most recently Kyle led a dramatic pivot in marketing strategy not only using AI but to also take advantage of the shifting buyer’s journey brought on by AI. A member of the Bates College Class of 1997, Kyle lives south of Boston with his family, who are all sick of him forcing them to regularly change their passwords.
