Teacher Residency for Rural Education

Teaching Residency for Rural Education (TRRE) Accepted applicants pursuing an M.Ed. receive 50% off in-state (NH) tuition and a @28,000 stipend. TRRE is a 15-month program for people interested in becoming math or science teachers for students in elementary or secondary rural, high need schools in New Hampshire. Graduates of TRRE offer hiring school partners in New Hampshire access to highly qualified teachers who hold certification in key shortage areas and who are well-prepared to work successfully in high need schools. One of four rural TQP teacher preparation programs currently funded in the United States, TRRE seeks to address persistent dilemmas in rural education in New Hampshire. Nearly forty percent of New Hampshire’s population is considered rural (Economic Research Service, 2018). On average, rural students have lower achievement outcomes and graduation rates (Institute of Education Sciences, 2013). TREE empowers a rural school-university-community alliance in teacher recruitment, preparation, support and retention. The program goals are to reduce teacher shortages in high need areas, improve student learning in math and science through innovative teacher preparation and build sustainable community based partnerships. TRRE is funded by the US Department of Education Office of Innovation and Improvement Teacher Quality Partnership Grants Program.
