Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Scenic Artist is responsible for the painting of the scenery and the props for Bates Theater Productions and for overseeing the Paint Crew. He or she is also responsible for maintenance of the paint area and tools, including paint, brushes, and buckets.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities

Requirements


The Scenic Artist must love to work with paint and be okay with getting his or her hands dirty. It is also desired that the he or she has an art background and has successfully completed theater 132 and 231.

Reporting


Reports to Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director, and Set designer. supervises stage hands and works closely with faculty and guest artists.

Responsibilities


The scenic artist works in the Schaeffer Theater, Gannet Theater, and the Scenic shop.There are minimal travel requirements for the Scenic Artist. This student must be able to climb a ladder in excess of twelve feet and will frequently use the staple gun, paint brushes, and Hudson Spray.
