Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

Organization Mission:
Campus Activities & Traditions (CAT) oversees major large-scale events, small scale events, traditions and programs on the Bates campus designed to meet the eclectic interests of Bates students and create a lively, inclusive community. CAT oversees and plans events over the course of the academic year.

Purpose:
To coordinate student activities, entertainment and events in conjunction with Office of Campus Life and other organizations to put on the highest, fullest level of programming for the college, and meet and reflect the eclectic interests of the Bates students body and community.

Summary of the position: The Village Club Series (VCS) is Bates’ weekly Thursday night concert series at 9pm in the Benjamin Mays Center. VCS managers supervise VCS Crew members and coordinate logistical elements crucial to the successful and efficient operation of the series. VCS Crew members are students who collaboratively choose VCS artists, handle VCS publicity, determine the trajectory of the series, and set-up and clean-up each show – in particular handling band load-in/out and setting up the sound system and equipment for each show. **Due to Covid Policies, VCS will not run as ‘normal’, the Assistant Managers of Entertainment will be charged with continuing VCS while abiding by college COVID policies **

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities

Responsibilities


Oversee the VCS Crew, coordinate the VCS schedule of shows each semester. Interact directly with prospective talent and/or their agent(s) or manager(s) to book them for VCS, coordinate student performances, including recruiting for applications, and selecting performers, manage the VCS budget (this includes talent-related costs, production cost, and the purchase of swag for distribution and/or sale), coordinate digital and physical marketing for each show, oversee weekly set-up and tear-down of the show space, manage the VCS Social Media accounts and website, and work on other tasks as assigned

Requirements


At least 1 year experience as a VCS Crew member, a passion for VCS (atmosphere/ identity) and live music, as well as an interest in the continued evolution of VCS to best serve the entertainment interests of today’s student body, supports a safe environment at Bates - recognizes and embraces that VCS is a fun non-drinking event on campus, past student or peer supervisory experience is preferred, but not required, has a proactive stance toward student ownership and leadership of the series, has a friendly, helpful and professional attitude when working with VCS staff, crew and performers, has professional communication skills, has proficiency in social media marketing, has graphic design skills, has proficiency with Photoshop or equivalent platform preferred, and experience with implementing time management and organization strategies to efficiently accomplish tasks

Reporting


Reports to the Coordinator for Campus Life Programming, works closely with other members of CAT & VCS Crew and other campus partners as appropriate.
