The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Assistant supports EHS activities that facilitate a safe and healthful college community. The position is also an opportunity to gain expertise in the field of EHS that may influence and/or facilitate exploration of EHS as a career path. The EHS Assistant will work 10 to 15 hours per week.
Activities performed may include:
-Testing emergency eyewash and showers
-Providing support to implementation of campus fire drills
-Inspecting hazardous and universal waste accumulation areas
-Assisting campus units with management of safety data sheets
-Performing waste pickups
-Management of EHS related files and records
This is a position of trust and the incumbent must be able to manage building access and confidential materials in an appropriate manner. A basic understanding of the sciences is desired but not required. Individual must be able to lift 50 pounds floor to waist level. Basic computer proficiency.
Reports to the Director of EHS and will work closely with the EHS Coordinator and other campus personnel.
Work conditions will be both indoors and outdoors and may involve varied settings such as laboratory, office and workshop environments. A utility vehicle will be available for use. Training and personal protective equipment where needed will be provided.
