MOSAIC creates opportunities for alumni to connect around shared identities and experiences and to build relationships across differences. Through gatherings, conversations, mentorship, networking, and more, MOSAIC offers Black, Indigenous, and Alumni of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+, first-generation-to-college, and international alumni opportunities to find community, meet new people, and stay connected to each other and to Bates long after graduation.
Is MOSAIC an acronym?
No—it’s a metaphor! Check out our logo – each piece in the mosaic is distinct, but when the pieces come together, they create something new. They don’t lose what makes them distinct. Those differences are what make the whole thing work. In other words: what we bring changes the picture – and the picture changes us. Our differences are both transformative and transformed. This has special resonance at Bates. The Bates mission calls on us to “engage the transformative power of our differences.” MOSAIC is one way alumni can continue doing that after graduation.
What does MOSAIC do?
MOSAIC brings alumni together in person and online, on campus and around the world! You might join us for a gathering over dinner or drinks in your home city or at Reunion, a virtual conversation about a shared experience, an on campus networking event with current students during Back to Bates, an online discussion with a current professor or book club, a mentoring opportunity—or ideally, something YOU dream up next!
That last part matters: alumni shape MOSAIC. We prioritize alumni-led programs and work with you to turn your ideas into ways to connect in real-time!
We also team up with colleagues across Bates (and beyond!), including the Office of Equity & Inclusion, the Student Center for Belonging and Community, the Center for Purposeful Work, the Multifaith Chaplaincy, the Harward Center for Community Partnerships, Athletics, and NESCAC Out & Proudly.
Who is MOSAIC for?
MOSAIC centers BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, first-generation-to-college, and international alumni and the experiences they carry with them at and beyond Bates. But no one fits neatly into separate identities. Many of us belong to more than one of these communities, while others may share experiences, interests, or commitments that bring us together across them. Allies, advocates, and supporters are always welcome!
How can I get involved with MOSAIC?
Bring us your ideas! MOSAIC invites alumni to shape how they connect, gather, and spend time together. We prioritize alumni-led programming, which means we want to know what you would find meaningful. Whether you’re looking to reconnect with old friends, meet alumni who share your experiences, expand your professional network, mentor a student, find collaborators, or simply spend time with fellow Bobcats, MOSAIC has a place for you.
Alumni bring the ideas and leadership; we help make them happen.
Not ready to organize something? That’s okay, too. Come to an event. Join the mailing list or the LinkedIn group. Tell a friend. Meet another alum. Graduating seniors (AKA soon-to-be-alumni!), parents, and friends of Bates can also stay informed and support MOSAIC.
